We had a very busy day this past Saturday. We celebrated the 4th of July for the first time with Abby. We had a packed schedule that included visiting friends in Urbana, a family cookout at "the farm", and local fireworks later that night. We were worried about how well Abigail would hold up during the hectic day, but she did really well! She did end up going through a couple outfits though...
The first outfit was the traditional "baby's first 4th of July" onsie. That lasted 3 minutes before she spit up "purple" spit up on it (thank you Prevacid for tinting that for us!). We didn't even get her picture in it! Oh well. The second outfit was a darling top and pant set. The top was red and white striped with stars at the top of it with blue pants. Well, in Urbana, Abby peed through her diaper and all over mommy. So, we lost the pants and she spent the rest of the day with just the top and her diaper!
We started the day driving to Urbana for a surprise party our friends Nicole and Justin were throwing for Nicole's mom. It was fun to see the Swigart/Grafton crew and they had a great turn out. Nicole's mom was surprised, but Abby threw a little fit when everyone shouted "surprise"... I think it definitely startled her. I don't know if that is a sign that we shouldn't throw surprise parties for her in the future??
After our trip to Urbana, we headed to the Welch family farm here in Marysville for a cookout. By this time it was raining, so our cookout got moved inside. It was fun to watch Sarah's great-grandmother (Abby's great-great-grandmother), Nana, hold Abby and play with her. Abby baptized several family members with her spit-up and drool... but luckily everyone had good humor about it! We unfortunately didn't stay long because Abby was tired and ready for bed.
Normally Abigail goes to bed at 7ish for the night so we did not think that she would be able to make it to the fireworks. However, she surprised us all by taking an evening nap at Mike's parents' house and waking up in time to go. It was raining (well, sprinkling) so we stayed in the car and then got out to watch the fireworks when they started. Abby is a very wiggly girl who is constantly squirming in our arms... but when that first firework shot up into the air, she froze and starred at them for the rest of the show. There were times when our chests shook due to the booms... but she didn't cry, smile, or talk. Abby just sat there and watched with wonder and amazement. It was precious and hilarious at the same time.
We got home and our little lady fell right to sleep... she was exhausted! All in all, it was a very busy and tiring day, but we had a lot of fun and really enjoyed spending the day with our little one. A lot has changed in a year. This time last year we were talking about how at the next 4th of July there would be a baby to pass around... and now she is here!
